Behind the Brand: The McCoy Story of Style, Comfort & Affordability
Few things are as classy as a pair of well-crafted formal Oxford shoes in relation to men's fashion. Classic design, incomparable utility, and an immediately refined appearance – Oxford shoes have always been an essential part of every stylish person.
These classics are not only footwear at McCoy but also a mirror of India and its changing craftsmanship that is driven by the world. The brand McCoy Shoes has already become a synonym for high quality, real comfort, and elegant style, but the history of the brand is even more inspiring.
The Vision, Craft, and Courage of Legacy
All the great brands start with a dream. In the case of McCoy, such a dream was of Sarthak Mahajan, a successful entrepreneur and a visionary who has experience of both the world and Indian culture.
Trained at HR College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai and further at the renowned IE Business School in Madrid, Sarthak had all the chances to make it abroad. But a greater force brought him back – his need to change the way the world perceives Indian brands.
During his learning and residence in Europe, he was fascinated by the quality of footwear and the uniformity of craft in international markets. However, he spotted a loophole: luxury-level quality was not always available in India without the large price tag.
He understood that India possessed the talent, skill, and heritage to meet international standards; what they required was a brand that believed in the ability to produce world-class products the Indian way. This was what started McCoy Shoes.
The Enterprising Beginnings of Sarthak Mahajan
Motivated by passion and a deep-rooted belief in India’s potential, Sarthak returned home with one mission to revolutionize the future of Indian footwear. His goal wasn’t just to build another brand but to redefine what Indian-made quality could look and feel like.
His vision for McCoy was clear:
- Pair European finesse with Indian craftsmanship
- Make premium footwear affordable and accessible
- Create shoes that merge style, comfort, and durability
- Showcase Indian brands proudly on a global stage
Inspired by the iconic film Swades, Sarthak committed himself to empowering Indian artisans and encouraging a new generation of entrepreneurs. His leadership as Creative Director transformed McCoy from a concept into a brand admired across India and beyond.
A Brand Rooted in Five Decades of Craftsmanship
McCoy Shoes is not just an independent label and it is the proud in-house brand of Galaxy International, a company with more than 50 years of excellence in making premium footwear for some of the world’s most reputable names.
Since 1993, Galaxy International has been celebrated for its:
- Expert shoemaking skills
- High-quality material sourcing
- Strong manufacturing ethics
- Consistent focus on durability and comfort
By bringing this legacy under the McCoy name, the brand delivers footwear that blends decades of expertise with today’s trendsetting designs. The result? Shoes that feel as good as they look and last far longer than the average pair.
McCoy’s formal Oxford shoes, especially, showcase this craftsmanship. Their clean silhouettes, premium leather, sturdy construction, and plush comfort make them a staple for professionals, grooms, and anyone who values effortless style.
How to Break In New Leather Shoes Painlessly?
New pairs of leather shoes, particularly the formal Oxfords, usually need a short period of break-in. This transition need not be painful and can be done with the following steps:
1. Wear Them Indoors First
Wear your new Oxfords for short periods here and about the house. This assists in making the leather soft and moulding to your feet.
2. Use Thick Socks Initially
Putting on heavier socks makes the feet feel a good squeeze and stretches the leather in a good way.
3. Apply Leather Conditioner
Conditioner makes stiff leather soft, and it also reduces the points of friction that are a source of pain.
4. Try the “Two-Hour Rule”.
Do not wear new shoes all day long. Start with 1-2 hours and then go up slowly.
5. Apply a shoe stretcher where necessary.
In case some parts of the shoe are tight, a wooden shoe stretcher would help to fit it to the correct size.
6. Don’t Skip Shoe Trees
Shoe trees should be added after use to retain their form and avoid creasing.
Breaking in must never be painful, and with the naturally soft leather used by McCoy and insulated soles, it is much easier than with regular footwear.
Why Does McCoy Stand Apart?
McCoy is a welcome change in a world with mass-produced footwear, based on heritage, raised by craftsmanship, and fueled by vision. It is not just a brand but a movement to bring out the potential of India to the world.
